Early Life
Akshay was born in Amritsar, Punjab, India, on 9 September 1967. He belongs to a Punjabi family. His father was an Army Officer, later he resigned and became an Accountant in UNICEF. Akshay grew up in Delhi and then shifted to Bombay.
He completed his schooling from Don Bosco High School, Mirik Darjeeling and did higher education in Guru Nanak Khalsa College, but he dropped out of college due to a lack of interest in studies. From Childhood Akshay Kumar has an interest in martial arts and acting and during his passion, he went to Bangkok to learn martial arts.
He is a black belt in Taekwondo. Later he lived in Thailand for five years to learn Thai boxing. He also worked as a chef and waiter in Thailand. After that, he went to Calcutta in a travel agency, in Dhaka in a hotel, and Delhi where he sold Kundan Jewellery.
When he was a youth, somebody suggested him to do modeling and try in films as an actor because of his good looks. He stepped into modeling. He worked with photographer Jayesh Sheth as an assistant to shoot his first portfolio. After the debut in the film industry, he changed his name to Akshay Kumar from Rajiv Om Bhatia.
He also worked as a background dancer in various films. Akshay was about to do his modeling project in Bangalore but he missed out on his flight and started wandering in Natraj Studio, where he met Pramod Chakravorty and signed the film Deedar.

After good exposure in modeling, Akshay tried his luck in the film world. He made his first debut from “Saugandh”, in which he is opposed to Rakhee and Shantipriya. Later he appeared in ” Dancer” which is directed by Kishore Vyas. That same year he played a role in the suspense thriller, “Khiladi”, which is directed by Abbas Mustan. Later he appeared in the film Mr.Bond.
In 1992, his next movie was Deedar, whose performance did not do well at the box office. He appeared in Dil Ki Baazi, Kayda Kannon, Waqt Hamara Hai, and Sainik which are not successful movies. In 1994, he appeared in Main Khiladi Tu Anari, which is directed by Sameer Malkhan. He played the role of the inspector in this film.
Later he appeared in the film “Mohra”, which was directed by Rajiv Rai. This film became the highest-grossing film of the year. Later he appeared in Yeh Dillagi which is directed by Yash Chopra. He got his first nomination for Best Actor at the Filmfare Awards and Star Screen Award.
In 1994, he worked in 11 films. That same year he played a double role in action thriller Sabse Bada Khiladi, directed by Umesh Mehra, which was a successful film. Then next he appeared in the Khiladi series Khiladiyon Ke Khiladi with Rekha and Raveena Tandon. This film was also a successful movie.

In 2000, he appeared in the comedy film Hera Pheri in which his role opposite Paresh Rawal and Sunil Shetty. This film was a big successful movie at the box office. Later he appeared in romantic drama Dhadkan, directed by Dharmesh Darshan. That same year he appeared in the film Khiladi 420.
In 2001, he played a negative role in the film Ajnabee which is directed by Abbas Mustan. He won his first Filmfare award for Best Villain and IIFA award 2002 for his great performance of a negative role in this film.
